A member of the clinical staff of The Center for Sexual Health, Dr. Withrow evaluates sexual problems from the physical, as well as the social and psychological perspectives. Many diseases such as diabetes, medical conditions such as hormone imbalances, and medications such as anti-depressants and blood pressure medicines can cause or exacerbate sexual problems. Thus, Dr. Withrow's assessment includes a careful medical history, a thorough physical examination and laboratory tests to determine the presence, if any, of an underlying medical problem. When indicated, he schedules more detailed studies at UNC Hospital or Duke University Medical Center.
Dr. Withrow is a member of the North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians. He has given lectures on sexual dysfunction and its evaluation to other family physicians. He also trains medical students from Duke University and the University of North Carolina in family practice.
